“MOTHER” Coming May 2025

The foundation of my work has always been rooted in my profound appreciation for Catholic imagery and the divine feminine form. For this particular collection, my focus has shifted specifically towards the concept of motherhood. My exploration of heightened femininity has naturally led me to this point, and I seek to delve deeper into its significance beyond the surface. Through this collection, I aim to investigate the complexities of maternal bonds, the nurturing way of women, and the notions of safety and protection associated with the womb, both in literal and metaphorical senses.

I have refined my color palette to reflect images of my mother and maternal grandmother with their children during pregnancy, drawing inspiration from their personal moments in motherhood. Through research on pregnancy and fetal scans in medical texts, I have gravitated towards warm, fleshy tones that evoke the sensation of life growing and being protected. The concept of being surrounded, protected, and nurtured within the womb, and continuing to experience that affection beyond birth, informs my design process.

The use of hoods, inspired by the Virgin Mary’s headdress, symbolizes the act of being enveloped and sheltered. Additionally, the layering of sheer, lightweight silks in varying tones mimics the texture and layers of skin, light, and warmth, echoing the glow of a stained-glass window or the radiating warmth of a mother’s womb. This collection reflects my desire to capture the intimate, protective, and gentle qualities of motherhood.
